In the early days of the program, we would sit around in a circle and share stories and experiences - a wonderful connection between mentors and a time to learn from each other. As we have grown to over 100 mentors in seven schools, we share these stories weekly via email...

From the desk of Program Coordinator...You
just never know when the seeds of mentoring might bloom. Recently in a local store, a voice behind me called my name.
I turned around to find a tall, smiling young man who looked vaguely familiar. As he started to talk I realized that this young man had been one of the students in our first class of mentees at the high school; a GHS graduate of 2004. " Just thought you'd like to know that I've finished a two-year technical training program in Electronics. I'm working with the school placement office on a job, and planning to sign up for Advanced Electronics classes in the fall."
His smile said it all! His life was coming together the way that he and his mentor had hoped many years ago.
They had always had a strong relationship, discussing family issues, hopes for the future, building a supportive friendship. His mentor had never
doubted that he was a strong capable boy with some complicating factors in his
life, but the end of his high school career arrived without realization of any of
the plans for the future that they had discussed. His mentor was worried about
what his future held, but never let the warmth of their friendship lag.
....and now almost a decade later, a smiling, confident young adult who just wanted us to know....
...and they still occasionally meet for lunch.......
