Application Process

  • Complete and submit our on line volunteer application  or print a copy and mail it to our office.

Our coordinators will contact you to schedule an individual interview to discuss the program further.  In order to establish a basis for a match, we will discuss particular areas of interest and preferences as laid out in our matching form  and mentor preference form which you can complete and submit here.   If you prefer, you may also print copies and bring them with you.  Printable matching form   Printable mentor preference form

Since adults working with minor students in the school require federal background/motor vehicle check, we ask that our volunteers pay the cost of their own screening by Employers’ Reference Source in Newington of $35.00.  If this is difficult for you, please let us know.  We certainly would not want this to be a deterrent to joining the program.  You can print the corresponding release form here and bring it along with cash or a check made out directly to Employers Reference Source to your interview.

Sign the mentor agreement confirming your commitment to mentoring and bring that along with you as well.

Attend and participate in two training sessions; a basic session for all mentors as well as an elementary or adolescent specific session depending on mentor’s preference.

Orientation by appropriate school staff members in the building where you will be mentoring.
